Texas Scarab Beetle: Stitched and Embellished *


It's bigger and better in Texas, and the same goes for this stitched and embellished scarab beetle. Starting with a raw edge-appliqué base of 4 pieces, learn multiple hand-embellishments via beading, buttons, and embroidery stitches. The studio practices which Beth uses and applies in creating her embroidered bugs will be discussed throughout the process and construction of the beetle. Each step will be demonstrated.


Kit: $35  Includes the pattern; fabric selection for the bug; hand-painted background fabric; paperbacked fusible web; 2 needles; a small selection of beads; embroidery threads; and diagrams and instructions.


Student provides: Scissors, both embroidery, and paper; neutral color sewing thread; Frixion pen by Pilot(fine point .05), extra needles, needle threader.


Skill level: All     Class Hours: 6 hours(all day with a lunch break, or 2-3 hour sessions).   

Fee: $100 per student


Texas Mosquito: Stitched and Embellished


Mosquitoes were my least favorite insect until now. This quirky raw-edge appliqué insect is composed of 6 pieces applied to a handpainted background and embellished with embroidery and beading. The studio practices which Beth uses and applies in creating her embroidered mosquito will be discussed throughout her process and construction of the mosquito. Each step of assemblage and embroidery stitches will be demonstrated. 


Kit: $35. Includes the pattern; fabric selection for the mosquito; hand-painted background fabric; paperbacked fusible web; 2 needles; a small selection of beads; embroidery threads; and diagrams and instructions.

Say it in Writing: Hand-Stitched Text*


Learning to embroider letters and words in a text sampler will inspire and give you the confidence to explore text in your personal work. The studio practices used in creating Beth's embroidered narratives will be discussed, demonstrated and applied to the text sampler. Using a needle, floss and floche, the running stitch, backstitch, stem stitch, chain stitch, whipped running stitch, beaded backstitch and couching will be applied to the sampler. Other stitches will be used in the botanical frame.


Kit: $30  includes: Hand-painted fabric background with interfacing, diagrams and instructions, 2 needles-beading and embroidery, a small selection of beads, floss


Student provides: Embroidery scissors, Frixion pen by Pilot-fine point (.05 mm), optional: hoop, 7" or 9".


Skill level: All.  Class hours: 6 hours(all day with a lunch break or 2-3 hour sessions)
